처마 책장 2021
'처마'는 Korea eaves의 한국 명칭입니다. 현재 일하고 있는 SWNA는 경복궁과 창경궁의 사이인 북촌에 있어서 한옥과 궁의 건축의 세부 요소들을 관찰할 수 있는 기회가 많습니다. 출퇴근과 산책을 다니며 무의식의 단계에 한국의 전통 건축의 인상이 남았고, 이를 현대식으로 재해석해 물성을 강조하고 외형이 단순한 책장을 디자인했습니다.
안정적인 삼각형 구조의 알루미늄 강판 두 장을 기반으로, 처마 끝이 올라간 것 처럼 휘어진 지지대를 끼워 단순하지만 한옥의 요소가 연상될 수 있는 디자인을 구상했습니다. 지지대가 흔들리지 않게 고정하는 나사와 바닥의 모서리에 미끄러움, 긇힘을 방지하기 위해 끼우는 고무덮개로 안정성을 고려했습니다. 알루미늄 판의 옆면을 검게 칠해 한옥 특유의 짙은 나무 색을 표현했습니다.
5cm 의 좁은 폭에는 책등이 아닌 표지가 보이게 책을 전시하듯 기대어 두도록 의도했고, 처마처럼 끝이 둥글게 올라가 있어서 책을 기대어도 쓰러지지 않습니다. 삼각형의 두 판 사이에 책을 놓거나, 지지대의 양 옆의 남는 공간을 활용해서 화병같은 사물을 둘 수 있습니다. 꼭대기 층에 기타 물품을 올려두어 쟁반처럼 사용합니다.

Cheoma Bookshelf
'Cheoma' is the Korean name of 'Korea eaves'. The SWNA where i work is located in Bukchon, between Gyeongbokgung and Changgyeonggung, and there are many opportunities to observe the details of hanok and palace architecture. While commuting and stroll, the image of traditional Korean architecture remained in the unconscious level. So i reinterpreted it modernly, emphasized the material, and designed a book shelf with a simple silhouette.
Based on two stable triangular aluminum steel sheets, it is designed to be reminiscent of a simple but hanok details by assembling a curved support as if the edge of the orchid was raised. Stability was considered with screws that hold the support unshakable and rubber covers that are inserted to prevent slipping and cracking on the corners of the floor. The side of the aluminum plate was painted black to express the unique dark wood color of hanok.
The 5cm narrow width allows you to lean on the book as if displaying it so that you can see the cover, not the back of the book. The edge is rounded and curled like an Cheoma, so it doesn't collapse even if you lean on the book. Books can be placed between two triangular plates, or objects such as vases can be placed using the space left on both extended sides of the support. And you can put other items on the top floor and use it like a tray.
